Hours. In just mere hours the sun would set, she would go to sleep, and wake up to the horror that is the Reaping. It had to happen, she knew, but she hated having to go through it. Every year it was the same. What if it was Trill? What would she do if her baby sister got picked? Of course, she knew what she would do. She wouldn't let her. She didn't care what rules she would break, she would volunteer, just like a normal tribute would. She would take her sisters place, and hope she came out on top once again.
She sighed as she finally put away the last of the dishes. She grabbed the towel from next to her and dried her hands quickly before she walked to the covered dishes stacked on the kitchen table. She heard a creak behind her and turned around, a small smile on her face. "Go on up to bed, sweetness. Everything will be fine." She tried to sound as convincing as she could, and her sister nodded and turned back up the stairs, going to her room.
Trell gave a gentle sigh before she grabbed her jacket from next to the door. Even though she was a Victor, she had all of the winnings saved. She only took out enough to keep the house running properly and for a month of food. She didn't want to be different, so she lived off of her shop like anyone else would. She threw the jacket on finally, grabbing the dishes off of the table.
She slipped out the door and walked the few houses down, stopping to knock on the door. All of the lights were still on, so she knew that someone had to be awake. She bit her lip slightly as she stood by the door, simply waiting.

He'd decided to distract himself by doing housework but he found that fairly boring and it just wasn't distracting him enough. He had however managed to make the place look a bit more cleaner than usual, usually it was a mess but then whenever someone was coming round he'd quickly rush about hiding the mess in any place he possibly could.
Finally he'd just given up and sat himself down in a chair, wondering what the heck it was he could do now, he could try and get some sleep but he knew it was unlikely he'd always get nightmares near the hunger games, he wouldn't be surprised if most past victors did, except the psycho ones that enjoyed it. That was when he noticed someone through his window. Someones at my door he thought to himself getting up and checking the time, who the hell could this be he wondered then figured he should probably stop just standing there wondering and go and go open the door for them.
Grey strolled over and swung the door open. "Trell!" he said with a smile wrapping his arms around her in a hug for a moment then letting her go again. "What can i do for you?" he asked, knowing she was probably worried about the reaping tomorrow, he'd happily try to make her feel better though, he felt like it was somehow his job to make sure she was ok, he was her friend and he was also the older mentor so he had to make sure she was doing ok. "Oh! where are my manners, come in" he said standing to the side to give her room to pass so he could close the door behind her.

She only stood outside for a moment before the door opened, and Grey pulled her in for a hug. She gave a bright smile as she looked up at him, holding out the covered dishes. "Trill made pot pies and cookies, she insisted I bring some over for you guys." She gave a small smile while still holding out the dishes, shivering slightly from the cool night air. When he told her to come in, she gave a nod and stepped past him, moving straight to the dining room table. She sat the dishes on the table before she removed her jacket, placing it on the back of a chair.
Without another thought, she turned and ran straight into his arms, wrapping her smaller ones around his middle. "What if it's her, Grey? What if it's Trill? I can't let my baby sister go through what I did." She was on the verge of tears, but Grey should have been used to that by now. Every year was the same. She buried her face in his chest, trying her hardest not to let the tears spill. She wasn't a child anymore, dammit! She had to buck up or shut up, but right now, she could do neither. "I have to do whatever it takes to keep her alive, and if that means taking her place and trying to win again, I will." She whispered these words, knowing that Grey would probably not approve of them.

Then he realised what was going on, it happened pretty much every year, one year he'd spent so long comforting her she'd fell asleep and he had to carry her home. He embraced her back and then like every year he had to come up with something on the spot "Dont worry Trell, It wont be her and if it is then i'll sort it out" he stated stroking her hair and planting a kiss on the top of her head.
He would bribe someone to volunteer if Trill's name got called out if he had to, he wouldnt allow Trell to go through that nightmare again because she might not make it out the other side alive again. "You will not take anyones place, you've had your turn and your not having another, i wont allow it" he stated simply, probably a little strictly but oh well he meant it. "Trell, everything will be fine" he stated then picked her up and placed her over his shoulder.
He didnt even explain himself, he simply left her over his shoulder and walked over to the table, found the dish of cookies and took them then made his way to the living room and placed her down on the sofa and took a seat next to her. "Everything's gonna be fine Trell" he told her taking one of her hands and then picking up a cookie with the other. "We're gonna just sit here, talk the night away and stuff our faces, dont worry about tomorrow, if anything happens i'll sort it out, i promise you" he stated then kissed the hand he was holding and followed that up by shoving an entire cookie in his mouth.

Grey's words were always comforting to her. She didn't know what she would do without the older male by her side. He was the closest thing she had to a best friend besides Trill, and she loved him like the big brother she never had. When he said he would sort it out, there was confusion in her mind, but she did not dwell on it right then. Now, he was scolding her, and she bit her lip like a scolded child. She went to speak again, but instead, a small squeak left her lips as he picked her up, throwing her over she shoulder. She tried to wiggle her way out of it, but his grip was strong, so she simply laid there, limp, a frown on her face.
She watched the table come into view, then out of view before she was placed on the sofa. She gave another squeak as she hit the cushions before she turned to him, placing her feet on his lap, just like she did the year after her Games, the first time being a Mentor. Grey had helped her through everything, just like now. She gave a frown when he took her hand, but she held tight to it, before a small blush crept onto her cheeks at the kiss he placed there. Then, she couldn't help but laugh when he stuffed the whole cookie into his mouth. She gave a small shake of her head before she picked one up for herself. "Grey...I don't want you to do anything rash. I've handled myself once in the Arena, and for Trill, I would gladly do it again." She said the words quietly before she took a bite of her cookie.

Trell was one of the important people in his life, he'd seen her as just a young girl and now she was blossoming into a woman and he was kind of proud of what she was becoming. He'd still probably treat her like she was still a child though, to him she'd pretty much always need his protection and guidance.
"You're not gonna do it." he stated simple, in a and thats that way. He then shoved a cookie into his mouth again chewing it then opening his mouth to show her the disgusting smushed up bit that was left, he smirked then swallowed it down.
He was just trying to cheer her up now, he hated seeing her like this but he was glad she came to him, he could help her, or at least try his best to. He then got an idea that was guaranteed to cheer her up a little as well as cheer himself up a little. A little evil smirk formed on his face as he looked down at her feet, grabbing them and begining to tickle the hell out of them.

Trell had just stuffed the rest of the cookie into her mouth when Grey spoke again. Of course, she was still blushing. She could feel his eyes on her, but she kept her eyes on her lap. She looked up at him, a sad look on her face. Of course she would do it. She just wouldn't let him suspect anything. She would show the utmost confidence in her baby sister, then volunteer if her name got called. She was already prepared. She still trained on her spare time, it gave her something to do. And she was still young, she at least had some sort of chance of making it in the Games again.
When he opened his mouth to show her the cookie, she cringed, turning her head away. "Come on! That's disgusting!" She said with a slight giggle, hiding her face before she felt his hands on her feet. She knew what was coming, and she braced herself, but it didn't work. She swallowed her cookie right before his fingers moved, and she began to flail. She let out a bright laugh as she squirmed, trying to get away from him. She flailed and squeaked but nothing worked. "Alright, alright! I give! No more, no more!" She cried out the words softly, trying not to wake up his family. She still wiggled, trying to get away from his tickling fingers.
She was glad that he changed topics. He always knew how to cheer her up. She was glad to have someone like Grey in her life, who would cheer her up and be by her side no matter what.

He'd managed to get the topic off something so depressing, he also knew Trell well enough to know that she would still ignore his advice, that's why he'd simply have to volunteer before she got the chance, he was stronger and had less of a life to live than her, he wasnt really sure what he was doing with his life mainly taking it one step at a time, he had no reason but his family to not volunteer in her place.
Grey rarely saw his family any more, most of the still lived in district nine but not the victors village, he'd offered but they'd turned him down, they preferred home and so did Grey sometimes. They'd visit him a lot though, his sister was the one he cared the most about but she spent most of her time in the capitol, he didn't get to see her much anymore.
Grey stopped tickling her and smiled at her not letting his thoughts show, they would remain silent until they needed to be said. Grey then wiggled his way out from under her feet and lay down next to her on the sofa, there was just enough room but to make sure he wrapped his arms around Trell and pulled her against him in a cuddle. "Everything's fine Trell" he told her with a small smile placing a kiss on her head once again, really just to see her blush and be all adorable again.

Trell was happy when Grey finally let up. She was even happier when he curled up beside her. She snuggled into him, moving closer to the back of the couch to make more room for him. When he wrapped his arms around her, she snuggled right in, her arms tucked up against her chest. Grey was the only comfort she had right now. Her mother was sick, and her sister was too scared to be there for her. Grey was the one who had been there when she had nightmares, the one she went to when she was too scared. He was there for her before she even went to the Arena, when her own mentor was too busy talking it up for the camera's. He was her rock, her best friend, her brother, and she loved him for everything he did for her. He had practically taken her into his home those first few months after she won, calming her down and making her feel safe. He helped her forget.
When she felt the kiss to her forehead, the blush returned to her cheeks. She tried to hide it. She nuzzled her head up under his chin, sighing softly as her heart beat sped up. She had to admit, Grey had been her rock, and her weakness, for years now. She had gotten close to him during her few years as a Mentor. She still did not know what it meant, but there were times when her heart would skip a beat, or she would forget how to speak or breathe. But it usually happened around Grey. The simple thought made her blush deepen, and she tried to hide it even more. She didn't want to ruin this moment of comfort by him seeing and calling her out on her school girl crush. She knew it didn't mean anything, and it would never mean anything. Grey was years older than her. She was just a child in his eyes.
She gave another sigh before she snuggled in more. "Can I stay here tonight...?" She whispered to him slightly. She knew she would have the dream tonight, she had the dream every night, but now it would be worse. Worse because it was so close to that time again. And she didn't want to bother her ill mother, or worry her baby sister anymore.

He was years older than her and he always would be, he thought of her like his younger sister but it honestly didn't feel like how he felt for his sister he felt like she was more like a friend he would never lose, mainly because he would never let that happen.
Grey smiled as she blushed, she'd tried to hide it but he knew she had. She was really cute, nobody could deny that, she also looked so young. It hurt him a little bit to know what she'd gone through as such a young age but he'd been the same. He was sure she'd grow up to be a beautiful woman and meet a decent guy who obviously Grey would have to check out a lot beforehand because he was probably a bit too overprotective.
His mind was just wondering what the future would be like when he heard her voice "Of course you can" he told her holding her closer so she felt more protected and secure, he was a little worried about her but he knew she'd be okay, she was a lot stronger than she looked and he wasn't going to leave her untill he knew she was okay.

Trell tried to pull herself out of her thoughts. It would never happen. And she couldn't even imagine settling down, let alone bringing a child into this world. She would not put anyone into the Games, let alone her own child. She couldn't handle it with her little sister, what would she do if her children were called? She couldn't even think of it as Grey told her she could stay there. She gave a small smile before she looked up at him. "I'm scared, Grey. What if I can't help my tribute?" She whispered up to him. She was worried. She had done horribly the year before, her tribute hadn't even made it past the bloodbath, and the worse part was, she was one of Trill's friend. The little girl was still having trouble getting over it.
A breeze drifted through the window, and Trell gave a slight shiver. She snuggled into Grey some more, trying to soak up his heat. She just wanted all of this to be over. Why couldn't they just end the Hunger Games so they could move on with their lives and be happy? Of course, that would never happen. The Capitol loved their precious games. They loved to watch people suffer just to make their lives mean something. A sigh escaped her lips as she flung one of her arms over him, leaning closer. She was almost laying on top of him as her fingers searched the floor for the plate of cookies. She couldn't find it though, and simply flopped down on top of Grey, pouting slightly. "I can't find the cookies..."

"You'll be fine, i'll help you" he told her stroking her hair, she'd be fine, he'd make sure. He'd had trouble at first dealing with the death of his tributes, he still did a little bit but he had to take his mind out of it, the mentor's couldn't blame themselves in the end it was the tribute who would make the decisions and could choose to go or go against their mentor's advice and sometimes it was just luck that would change something in the games.
Grey felt Trell shiver and snuggle into him some more, he wrapped his arms around her some more trying to keep her as warm as he could. Grey rolled his eyes as she told him she couldn't find the cookies with a pout. He reached over with one arm and felt around on the floor eventually finding them and picking the plate up. He picked a cookie off the plate and placed it into Trell's mouth. "There.. don't get crumbs everywhere though" he told her, he didn't need to deal with having crumbs all over him.
