Auricula sighed as she sat on the couch waiting for the Avox to get back with the éclairs. She never really understood why tributes, especially the Careers, were so eager to talk about strategy. Albeit, Auricula was one of those tributes who did want to talk about strategy, she wished she could just go back and save those few sentences to eat another éclair or get to know her fellow tribute a little bit better. Maybe he wouldn’t be haunting her nightmares whenever she had them.
The door of the carriage opened and Auricula expected it was the Avox with the éclairs. However, it was Elizza carrying that tray of éclairs. Auricula’s face lit up in a smile as she took the tray from the girl. “Thank you, my dear,” she said as she sat the tray on the coffee table in front of her. She looked back at the girl as she patted the seat next to her. “Come, sit,” she said, like a sweet little grandma would say. “I don’t bite… much… Only in the ninth Hunger Games” She chuckled to herself as she took an éclair off the tray. “So much has changed since then…” She looked over at Elizza and smiled at her before she took a bite of her food. “But I’m guessing you don’t want to talk about the Games and strategy, do you? It’s fine if you don’t and want to decompress for a couple of hours. There’s no rule saying you have to talk about it all the time at all.” She took another bite before she continued. “So we can talk about whatever you want.”

the blonde sat as her mentor patted the vacant spot next to her on the couch, smirking at her bit about only biting during the games. the ninth hunger games. boy that was a long time ago. elizza was surprised the woman had gone through so much and was still alive watching and mentoring the games. crazy, she thought. elizza looked to auricula as she spoke. she sure didn't want to talk about the games at all. maybe what her mentor thought of it all, but overall she had enough running through her mind from the conversation in the dinning compartment. she couldn't bare to hear any more of it. not then, but definitely later.
elizza didn't quite know what to talk about then. she was there for the games, everything else she tried to leave behind in district two, even though it was hard to get everything out of her mind. she then thought of her reason to come to auricula in the first place: to get to know her better, one on one. she had, in fact, elizza's life in her hands, she had to be on good terms with the woman.
with a tilt of her head, elizza opened her mouth to speak at last, "okay then. how about..." she thought a second, trying to think of anything that wouldn't get her all riled up or anything. she thought it would be interesting to know a little more about her mentor, she was old and had been there for longer than anyone. elizza then said, "how about when you were my age. how were things different? in district two i mean." it was something that wasn't related to the games, and she almost wanted to hear another person talk about anything but the games rather than herself.

Auricula smiled at Elizza as she joined her on the couch. She had a good feeling about this one. With the right training and piece of advice, she had the possibility to actually make it far into the Hunger Games if not win it. It was high hopes for Auricula, but that was the only thing that was left for her in life. Hope. The only things that keep people going and hanging onto the Games. It was the only thing keeping her alive when she lost her fellow District Two tribute and she was in the final five.
But then Elizza asked something that didn’t have to do with the Hunger Games. Well, not directly. Auricula smiled as she nodded her head, like an old grandma before she dove into one of those Back when I was your age stories. “Well…” she said as she got a thoughtful expression on her face. “District two was definitely messy. The Dark Age only ended when I was five. Lots of destruction and we barely had time to clean up before the Capitol swooped in with the Games. Town square was basically one big crater until they finally decided to fill it in. But it was a lot of construction when I was about your age. We were in the process of building a new town hall when I volunteered, so our Reaping took place in front of the train station and the waiting rooms were the ticketing booths.” She sighed as she shook her head. “I’m sorry,” she said as she looked over at Elizza. “It always seems like the Games works their way into my stories and that’s what we’re trying to stay away from.” She gave a partial smile to Elizza as she looked at her. “Tell me about yourself. Family. Friends. Hobbies. Doesn’t matter. You pick.”

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i54.tinypic.com/2vafwqd.jpg), border: solid #ffffff 5px; width: 400px; height: 500px;] elizza listened intently as auricula spoke. she had almost forgotten that she was there during the dark days. of course at a very young age, but it was significant. it was interesting to hear, and elizza was curious to know why she even decided to volunteer that early on. of course there were careers, although, still, she wasn't sure. did they have careers? were they as eager, or even more than they are now? it was a strange thought how the minds of district two may ave evolved, or not have changed at all. how the district even came to be so bloodthirsty. but as her mentor kept on going about it all, she had mentioned the conversation veering back towards the games. it was true, thoughts and conversations normally all went back to the topic of the hunger games if you were involved. and elizza was fully involved.
with only a small shake of her head, elizza dismissed the topic. she didn't care. that was how it was going to be most of the time with anyone involved. she knew that for a fact. elizza practically scoffed when her mentor asked about herself. her family, friends, she felt as though she had none. it was strange how she felt more care from people she didn't rather than her own parents. with a lift of her shoulder, elizza simply said, "nothing that exciting. there's my dad and mom. no friends. training. stressing. life. what else?" she shook her head, knowing that the only way auricula was going to be able to really help her later on was if she actually knew who she was. she couldn't bail out.
"okay, to tell the truth, my only hobby is to train and do every possible thing to get my parents nerves," she said with with a smirk. "i know, not the best, but that's me. and to sum it up, there's so much to me that there's nothing left." her smirk faded and her eyes dropped. it made sense to her and she doubted it would make any sense to anyone else. and there she was again, her mind drifting back to the games. "most everything leads to the games," she said in a sour tone, her moodiness making it's way back to her. elizza was tired of it all and wanted badly to forget. but in a place like this she just couldn't. it was all around her, in everyone she spoke to, and even herself.
